Oil Boiler Replacement, Nuneaton
Overview
Our client’s ageing oil-fired boiler had reached the end of its working life and needed replacing with a more efficient, better-protected system — without disruption to the existing heating throughout the property.
We replaced the boiler with a Grant Vortex 26/46 Boiler House Model condensing, heat-only unit, upgrading the flue, expansion and filtration at the same time so the new boiler is properly supported by the rest of the system rather than simply dropped into place.
The flue position on this property was the complication. Rather than compromise on the installation, we brought in a specialist flue contractor to work alongside our engineers and design a solution around it.
Scope of works
- Isolated and drained down the heating system and isolated the oil supply
- Disconnected and removed the redundant boiler from the boiler house
- Supplied and installed the new Grant Vortex condensing heat-only boiler
- Appointed and coordinated a specialist flue contractor to design and install the replacement vertical flue system, powder coated to the client’s chosen RAL colour, complete with a bespoke external framing system to support it
- Ran all new pipework and fittings to connect the existing heating system to the new boiler
- Fitted a new 50-litre heating expansion vessel with pressure relief valve and filling loop
- Installed a boiler magnet filter to the return pipework for continuous filtration and protection of the boiler and heat exchanger
- Reconnected the existing oil supply and fitted a new oil filter and remote fire valve
- Installed a condensate drain to waste
- Reconnected the existing heating controls and wired the boiler to a switched fuse isolator
- Refilled the system with inhibitor, tested and commissioned
Why it matters
On a rural property running on oil, the boiler is the whole heating system — there’s no mains gas to fall back on. Replacing like-for-like without addressing filtration and expansion is a false economy: debris from an older system is one of the fastest ways to shorten the life of a new heat exchanger.
Fitting a magnetic filter on the return, a correctly sized expansion vessel and a fresh dose of inhibitor protects the client’s investment from day one. The powder-coated flue, colour-matched to the client’s choice and properly framed and supported externally, keeps the installation looking right on the outside of the building as well as working correctly inside it.
A specialist solution for an awkward flue
The position of the flue on this building was well outside a standard installation, and getting it right mattered — both for the safe operation of the boiler and for how the finished job looked from outside.
We appointed a specialist flue company to work alongside our engineers on this element, designing and installing a vertical flue system and bespoke external support framing tailored to the position. Bringing in the right specialist for a single element of a job is often the difference between a compromise and a proper solution, and it’s an approach we’d rather take than force a standard kit into a position it was never designed for.
Handover
The system was fully tested and commissioned on completion, the boiler registered and its warranty activated, and all test and commissioning certification issued to the client in a complete handover pack.
Our workmanship is guaranteed for 12 months, with materials covered by their respective manufacturers’ guarantees.
