Charnwood College
Scope of Work
The project at Charnwood College (G Block Plant Room) was undertaken to upgrade and replace the main heating plant, controls, and associated builders’ work.
- Safe isolation, strip-out and removal of existing gas-fired boilers, water heaters, flues, pumps, pipework, controls, field wiring, and electrical containment.
- Installation of:
- 8 high-efficiency gas-fired boilers with associated flue systems.
- 1 plate heat exchanger, automatic filling devices, and expansion vessels.
- New pump sets, control panel, and system controls, fully integrated with the existing Trend BMS.
- New DHW cylinder to replace the previous water heaters, including all associated hot and cold-water connections.
- Modifications and connections to existing LPHW, MCW, and gas pipework, including replacement of the main ECV gas valve.
- Installation of new flue systems, including builders’ work and safe access arrangements for chimney maintenance.
- Electrical installation works:
- New switch control panel, power supplies, containment, and field wiring.
- Integration of sensors and equipment with the BMS.
- Ancillary works:
- Upgrades to basement sump pumps, with new discharge pipework and flood alarm system linked to BMS.
- Installation of condensate, safety valve, AAV, and waste pipework.
- Thermal insulation with stucco aluminum cladding.
- Testing and Commissioning:
- Pressure testing, flushing, and chemical treatment of all LPHW and water services.
- Balancing, commissioning, and setting to work of all new plant and automatic controls.
- Handover:
- Full O&M Manuals issued with “As-installed” drawings and commissioning certification.
