How Long Does a Boiler Service Take? Timescales & Constraints
A boiler service usually takes about an hour. That covers most gas combis in a normal kitchen cupboard, which is the job we do most often from our Hinckley yard through Leicester, Nuneaton and across to Coventry, Rugby and Tamworth.
Some boiler services finish in 45 minutes. Some take closer to two hours. The boiler type, how tightly it has been boxed in, and whether anyone has taken the case off in the last year decide which of those you get. The town name almost never does.
Hinckley Plumbing & Heating is Gas Safe registered and an APHC member, with competence on oil. We book the length of the slot the boiler service actually needs, then we do the visit to that standard. We would rather put two hours in the diary than rush a flu and combustion check to look quick on paper.
How long does a gas boiler service take?
A gas combi boiler service with easy access usually takes 45 to 75 minutes. A gas system boiler service more often takes 60 to 90 minutes because the cylinder and valves come into the check. Regular boilers with loft tanks take longer still.

How long does an oil boiler service take?
An oil boiler service usually takes 90 to 120 minutes. The burner, nozzle and tank area all need time, and the engineer has to be OFTEC competent. That is why an oil boiler service in Rugby or Leicestershire should not be booked into the same hole as a Hinckley combi with a clear cupboard.
What makes a boiler service take longer?
Cupboards built after the boiler went in. That is the winner every week, from Hinckley terraces to Leicester flats. The case will not come off if a washing machine has been slid tight against the pipes.
Loft-mounted regular boilers in older Rugby and Leicestershire houses come next. Hatch, boards, tanks, then the appliance. That is not a lunch-break boiler service, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Parking in bits of Coventry and central Leicester can steal a little time at each end of the slot. Once the bag is in the kitchen, how long the boiler service takes is about the appliance again.
And overdue boilers. Dust, damp and screws that have not moved for years turn a calm service into a slow one. That is not padding. It is the job taking the time it needs if it is going to be done to the standard Gas Safe and APHC expect.
Do I need to be home for the whole boiler service?
Be in for the start so we can get to the appliance and confirm which one we are looking at. Be in at the end for the sheet and anything that cropped up. The middle of the boiler service does not need an audience.
Tenanted places in Nuneaton and Coventry need someone with a key. Posting instructions through the door and hoping is how a boiler service gets written off and rebooked. We would rather get it right first time than bill a wasted run.
Can a repair be done in the same boiler service appointment?
Small things, sometimes, if the part is on the van and the next house is not already waiting. A pump or a board usually means a quoted return. The original slot was sold as a boiler service. Stretching it into an unfinished repair helps no one, least of all the household that still has no heat at 4pm.

How do you book how long a boiler service needs from Hinckley?

A bit, because it is clean. The checks still happen. The first annual boiler service is also the start of the warranty paper trail, so it should not be treated as optional.
Can you do two boiler services in one morning?
On commercial runs in Coventry or Tamworth, yes, if that is how the day was planned. A domestic booking is for the appliance you named. A fire or a second boiler needs its own line so each boiler service gets a proper check.
What if someone is late for a boiler service?
Ring. A few minutes we can often absorb. Miss the window on a Hinckley morning run and the next job is already waiting, so the boiler service becomes a rebook.
