You will usually lose heating, hot water, or both. On many Baxi models — including the 400, 600, 800 and Platinum ranges — E119 is one of the most common codes homeowners see. Some older Baxi and Potterton models show E118 for the same underlying problem, so it’s worth checking your manual to confirm which applies to yours.

The Baxi E119 error code on a boiler is another way of saying the system pressure is too low.

In plain English: there is not enough water moving around your radiators for the boiler to work properly, so it has stopped.

What Causes The Baxi E119 Fault Code?

The most common causes of the Baxi E119 fault code on a boiler are:

  • An expansion vessel that has lost its charge

What Pressure Should A Baxi Boiler Be?

Most Baxi boilers should sit around 1 to 1.5 bar when cold, rising towards 2 bar as the system heats up.

If the pressure drops below around 0.5 to 0.8 bar, the boiler will typically show E119 and stop. If your gauge is already reading in the normal range and E119 is still showing, that often points to a faulty pressure sensor rather than a genuine shortage of water.

How To Fix The Baxi E119 Fault Code

If you’re confident doing it yourself, the first step is to repressurise the boiler.

  1. Turn the boiler off and let it cool down.
  2. Locate the filling loop underneath the boiler.
  3. Open the filling valves slowly.
  4. Watch the pressure gauge or display rise.
  5. Stop when the pressure reaches around 1 to 1.5 bar.
  6. Close both valves fully.
  7. Reset the boiler if needed and check whether E119 has cleared.

Baxi boilers vary in how they are filled. Some use a braided filling loop with two valves, others use an internal filling link with a lever, and some of the newer models have a keyed system. If you’re not sure which setup you have, check the manual before turning anything.

One thing worth knowing: if you overfill past around 2.5 bar, you’ll usually need to bleed a radiator slightly to bring it back down.

Why Does The Baxi E119 Error Code Keep Coming Back?

If the E119 error code clears after topping up but comes back, the system is losing pressure again.

That might be a small leak on pipework or under floorboards, a pressure relief valve that has started to weep, or an expansion vessel that needs recharging. A tell-tale sign of a failed expansion vessel is pressure that swings sharply between cold and hot — very low when cold, near the red when the heating has been on.

Topping up repeatedly will keep things running short term, but it won’t fix the cause, and constantly adding fresh water speeds up corrosion inside the system.
